This is a type of phishing email that attempts to deceive the recipient by claiming that their mailbox is full or nearing its storage limit. The purpose of this scam is to trick the victim into clicking on a malicious link or providing their login credentials to “free up space” in their email account.
Pay close attention to the domain of the sender's email address. Scammers may use domains that resemble the genuine organization's domain but have slight variations or misspellings. Verify the domain carefully before engaging with the email.
The email creates a sense of urgency, urging the recipient to act quickly to avoid missing important emails or losing access to their account.
The email will contain links to a fake website that the recipient is instructed to click on to resolve the issue. The website may be a phishing site designed to collect the recipient's login credentials, including email username and password.
✅ Do not click on any links in the email, especially if they claim to resolve the mailbox full issue. Hover your mouse over the link to see the actual URL, but refrain from clicking unless you are certain it is legitimate.
✅ If you receive a mailbox full notice and are unsure of its legitimacy, reach out to your email service provider directly through their official website or customer support channels to inquire about the notice.
