The error 0x800CCC0E in Microsoft Outlook occurs when the email client fails to synchronize subscribed folders with the mail server. This is often caused by incorrect email settings, network connectivity problems, or interference from antivirus or firewall software.
In this guide, we list the steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue so you can get your Outlook back to syncing properly.
Outlook needs an active internet connection to communicate with your mail server. A disconnected or unstable network can trigger this error.
What to do:
- Open a browser and try visiting any website to confirm connectivity.
- Log in to your webmail to verify the server is accessible.
- Restart your router or switch to another network if needed.
Ensure the correct server names, ports, and encryption methods are used in your email account settings.
What to do:
- Check your Outlook IMAP settings
Some security programs block the ports or protocols Outlook uses to sync with your mail server.
What to do:
- Temporarily disable your antivirus and firewall.
- Open Outlook and check if the error persists.
- If Outlook works, add an exception for it in your antivirus/firewall settings.
Note: Re-enable your antivirus/firewall after testing.
Corrupted Outlook data files can cause sync failures.
What to do:
- Use the Inbox Repair Tool (scanpst.exe) located in your Outlook installation folder.
- Browse and select your Outlook data file, then click Start to scan and repair it.
Tip: We strongly recommend that you back up your existing Outlook data file in advance before repairing.
A corrupt Outlook profile can trigger sync errors. Try creating a new profile to start fresh with clean settings.
What to do:
- Follow this guide to create a new Outlook profile.
- Re-setup your email account with IMAP settings.
If you've gone through all the steps above and Outlook still shows the 0x800CCC0E error, consider updating Outlook to the latest version, or reinstalling Outlook or Microsoft Office.
